If you don't have a backup, you could try put the ailing Mac in Target Disk Mode and connect it to another Mac via firewire or thunderbolt (or de-install the drive and put it into an external enclosure) and then use a more heavy duty disk app like Disk Warrior on the second Mac to attempt rescuing the filesystem. At one point, it was suggested that I contact Apple. That seemed to be the limit of the lady's knowledge who I spoke with on the phone. Their suggestion is to erase the sick drive and restore from backup, all using Disk Utility. I called Seagate about this and they said they have received several calls on this issue over the past few days. My drive is a Seagate 2TB SSHD hybrid that I installed in April 2014 and is still under warranty. And since I can't mount the filesystem, I can no longer create a backup from it. The El Capitan installer has essentially bricked my iMac. And I am not able to mount the disk, due to which I cannot even go back to Yosemite 10.10.

So.actually if anybody can just give me simple english step by step on how to do this fix it would be appreciated.or a link to somebody at Apple?Ĭan I create a back up from disk utility at this stage!! When I am trying to repair the macintosh hd, it says the disk cannot be repaired. Apple should just have people on the ready to help out in these situations and that help should be free. I don't even know what it means to 'mount' or 'unmount' a disk and I don't think I should have to.

and now just loops back to the same install process whenever I restart.same as Shakil Danish above. Which by the way is "file system could not be verified or repaired". At least if it didn't install I could still use my computer while addressing whatever the problem is. I think Apple messed up on this install program somehow. In either case it should have just aborted and left the OS as is.

I had no known issues with the previous OS and so the install should have detected if there was and at that point aborted and told me there was an issue with my current OS that needs to be repaired before El Capitan can be installed.or at least told me that I have an issue that could not be repaired. Well as far as I'm concerned this is exactly what El Capitan should have told me and then aborted the install in the first place.

I have it on my MacBook Pro but I'm reading a lot of problems with it.which makes me wonder if I should go back to Yosemite on my MacBook if I don't have it on my iMac. Once I get rid of El Capitan I think I will wait until more bugs are fixed before trying again. I can get into Disk Utility via the Utilities drop down menu while on the El Capitan error message screen (same as Shakil Danish) and when I run First Aid on my Mac HD I get the Big Red stop sign and the message "First Aid process has failed.".ġ) Should I eject the OS X Install ESD Disk Image first? (this is the install disk image of El Capitan.is it not?)Ģ) Since I have a back up what selections do I choose after getting into recover mode for my Mac HD? Will it recognize I have a back up and give me that choice?ģ) If I don't eject the OS X Install ESD first then will I be able to eject it later and is it OK to just 'eject' it or will I have to go through hoops to get rid of it? I have the same problem on my iMac desktop but I DO have an external hard drive as my Time Machine backup.
